LMHPC Races

The LMHPC owns a truck equipped with racing pigeon baskets that will accommodate a few hundred birds. The club sponsors two sprint races for its members in advance of the old bird combine races in the spring and also ahead of the young bird combine races in the fall.

This video was taken during the release of pigeons during a combine race on August 23, 2025. The birds were released in Gas City, Indiana, and raced back to their home lofts throughout mid-Michigan. For most LMHPC members, the distance raced was between 150-200 miles. There were 517 young birds in this race. The fastest bird entered by a LMHPC flyer was AU-2025-LM-476, a bronze-colored hen flown by Llyod Webster. It flew at a speed of 1548.218 yards-per-minute for a distance of 143.573 miles. It took eighth place, finishing 5.27 minutes behind the pace set by the race winner.

LMHPC is one of the founding members of the Greater Michigan Open Combine. The Club's members basket their pigeons as a group in Perry, Michigan, that are then loaded onto a racing trailer operated by the Frankenmuth Racing Pigeon Club Inc., of Saginaw, Michigan, and released along a race course that runs south to north at distances of up to 500 miles.
